We were talking about it in Bristol last week when we had our pétanque evening with our French tutors and students.
The most famous scene in the film Fanny, created by Marcel Pagnol is la partie de boules. A tram arrives in the village but the pétanque players are blocking the line as they have to measure carefully to decide which boule is nearest to le cochonnet. This is sacred, you don’t interrupt une partie de boules! The tram driver and the passengers have to wait, whether they like it or not.
Le cochonnet is the small wooden ball which is the target, les boules which are nearest to le cochonnet get the points.
This scene is very entertaining and gives a real feel of life in Provence in the 1930ies ( les années 30) with the wonderful singing accent.
